The Day The Movies Died? CINEWORLD To Shut Cinemas After Latest NO TIME TO DIE Delay
It’s being reported that Cineworld will close all of its cinemas in the UK, Ireland and US this week. The company has been impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic and the latest delay in the release of No Time To Die seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
This is devastating news. It’s not hyperbole to say that we could literally be looking at the death of cinema here.
The Sunday Times is reporting that Cineworld’s UK closure, would impact 5,500 jobs. The company says that the cinema business has become ‘unviable’ because of COVID-19. Staff haven’t been told at this point.
Cineworld is the second largest largest cinema chain in the world and the largest in the UK (where it operates Cineworld and Picturehouse). The company has 128 cinemas across the UK and Ireland and 543 in the United States.
It’s not known how long Cineworld plans to close for and no reopening date has been set – that’s if they ever open agaiN. Now is the time to make good use of your local independent cinema.
