The Sheriff Of Nottingham Gets Sleazy As Ben Mendelsohn Joins ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS

Robin Hood is one of those tales which will continue to be retold for every generation. Therefore you can’t complain that there’s a now a new film version in the pipeline just 6 years after Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe embraced the legend of Nottingham’s favourite son.

Robin Hood: Origins is the latest Hollywood version of the infamous outlaw who liked to rob from the rich and give to the poor, with Taron Egerton plucking the bow as Robin and Jamie Foxx as Little John. Eve Hewson will portray Maid Marian and Jamie Dornan will star as Robin’s half-brother Will Scarlett.

That’s most of the main cast, but an important character was missing – until now.

Everyone’s favourite cinematic slime-ball Ben Mendelsohn is in negotiations to play the evil Sheriff of Nottingham in Otto Bathurst’s medieval adventure.

Here’s the log-line from Variety:

The story will center on Robin Hood, a war-hardened crusader who joins a Moorish commander in an audacious revolt against the corrupt English monarchy.

It sounds like Jamie Foxx’s Little John is going to be an amalgamation of the legend’s well known Merry Man and Morgan Freeman’s Azeem from Kevin Reynold’s Kevin Costner starrer Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. However, the man question is – will Mendelsohn manage to out-camp the great Alan Rickman in that 1991 blockbuster? I think we all know the answer.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.
