Robert Pattinson Is THE BATMAN; Looks Like He’ll Fight Catwoman & The Penguin For Matt Reeves

Robert Pattinson will succeed Ben Affleck as Batman. Reports are swirling that Pattinson is close to closing a deal to star in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which is set for release on 25 June 2021.

The 33 year-old Pattinson is supposed to play a younger version of The Dark Knight, the opposite of Affleck’s grizzled version from Batman V Superman and Justice League. I was sad to see Affleck go, but I think that Pattinson is a solid choice. Sure, he’s got a relatively slight build but that’s nothing a few months in the gym can’t fix. After all, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney weren’t exactly Mister Muscle when they played The Caped Crusader.

Pattinson has been doing a lot of edgy movies due to the bankability the Twilight franchise brought him. However, that type of clout can’t last forever and he likely needs a franchise in order to keep making those sorts of movies. Despite good reviews, Pattinson’s last seven movies have grossed less than $13 million combined at the US box office. However, he does have a lead role in Christopher Nolan’s next film in the pipeline.

There are also reports that Matt Reeves’ film will see Batman face-off against Catwoman and The Penguin – a combination which Micheal Keaton faced in 1992’s Batman Returns. It’ll be interesting to see who will get cast in those roles. That shouldn’t take long as filming on The Batman is apparently scheduled to take place in late 2019 or early 2020.
