Notebook Reviews: RANSOM
Ron Howard – 1996
Ransom is a top-notch thriller from Ron Howard, and it’s a film which shows his versatility as a director. Mel Gibson is great in the lead (playing somewhat against type) and Rene Russo is good, if underused. There are also great turns from Gary Sinise and Delroy Lindo.
It’s a touch on the long side, but you can’t say that the pace of Ransom lags. The tension is taught and the action is good. Howard’s film is similar to the Glenn Ford starring original, but the two can’t really be compared.
