Notebook Reviews: INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE

3 out of 5 stars

Neil Jordan – 1994.

Neil Jordan‘s Interview With The Vampire is a great looking gothic horror, which just about holds the attention. All the elements are there, but Jordan’s film lacks bite!

Tom Cruise goes against type as the villainous Lestat and he seems to relish his blood-sucking role. Brad Pitt makes for a good foil and there’s interesting support from Antonio Banderas and Stephen Rea. Whatever fails in the film, it’s not the performances.

There’s a lot to recommend in Interview With The Vampire – Elliot Goldenthal’s score is great and the costumes and production design are gorgeous. Despite all this there’s just something missing. It’s not bad, but Interview With The Vampire feels like a missed opportunity.
