Notebook Reviews: HER ALIBI
Bruce Beresford – 1989.
Bruce Beresford’s Her Alibi is an enjoyable comedy with a great big screen turn from Tom Selleck. The premise of a crime novelist getting romantically involved with a murder suspect (Paulina Porizkova) is an intriguing one, and Selleck delivers a wonderfully charismatic performance. Her Alibi features some very funny moments – and Selleck’s mystery novel voice-over is a hoot. I’ve said it a million times before, but Tom Selleck could (and should) have been one of our great all-time movie stars.
There’s a bit of slapstick comedy which lets the film down and the climatic reveal could have been better, but Her Alibi is a comedy-thriller which is worth your time.
