Kevin Costner To Star In & Direct The Western HORIZON
It looks like the great Kevin Costner is going to use the massive success of television’s Yellowstone to get a long-gestating passion project off the ground. Costner has announced that he’ll direct, star in, produce and finance the western Horizon. The film will be his first directing gig since 2003’s Open Range.
According to Deadline, ‘Horizon chronicles a multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American west’
The casting process for Horizon begins in February, while it’s expected to start production on 29 August 2022 in Utah.
This is what Costner had to say about his latest western:
“America’s expansion into the west was one that was fraught with peril and intrigue from the natural elements, to the interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land, and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it. Horizon tells the story of that journey in an honest and forthcoming way, highlighting the points of view and consequences of the characters life and death decisions.”
Aside from the aforementioned Open Range, Costner has also directed the under-appreciated sci-fi epic, The Postman and the masterpiece, Dances With Wolves. The latter won 7 Oscars including two for Costner as producer and director.
