Hugh Jackman & Jake Gyllenhaal Take PRISONERS
It feels like the film Prisoners has been in development for decades – although it’s only been a few years. However, in this time everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to Christian Bale by way of Mark Wahlberg has been attached to the project and then dropped out for one reason or another.
However, it now looks like it will finally become a reality, with Hugh Jackman setting it up to be his first project after The Wolverine. Melissa Leo is also attached, and it now seems like Jake Gyllenhaal (currently riding high at the box office in End of Watch) is set to join the Denis Villeneuve directed film.
Here’s a synopsis from THR: “[Prisoners] centers on a small-town carpenter (Jackman) whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped. After the cops fail to find them, his character takes the law into his own hands, kidnapping the man he suspects is responsible. But as his friend and daughter’s captivity continues, the carpenter begins to have doubts that he has the right man. If a deal is made, Gyllenhaal would play the detective investigating the kidnappings and who butts heads with the carpenter.”
Prisoners was first mooted in a wave of post-Taken revenge thrillers, and the script is supposed to be hot stuff – hence the revolving door of top tier talent.
Prisoners is expected to start in early 2013, but I don’t think that I’ll believe it’s a reality until I see it.
