Empire Magazine’s 100 Greatest Movies Of The Century Features A Lot Of Serious Duds
Taste is an interesting thing. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but some people simply don’t have good taste. They’d rather eat at McDonalds than a good restaurant. This list of Empire Magazine’s 100 films of the 21st Century shows most people would rather embrace the cinematic equivalent of a fast food burger joint than enjoy a succulent well cooked meal.
Is Avengers: Infinity War, a film not even out a year, the fourth best film released in the last two decades? The answer to that is no. It’s likely that the majority of people who voted for it are young, foolish and without any real cinematic taste. It’s cinematic fast food: designed and packaged to be sold around the globe.
There’s also a lot of great films which are notable by their absence. This list doesn’t feature All Is Lost, Vanilla Sky, Enduring Love, Big Fish and Far From Heaven for example.
Duds on the Empire list include the aforementioned Anvegers film, Avengers Assemble, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Guardians Of The Galaxy and Captain America: Civil War. All enjoyable movies in their own way, but far from being all-time greats.
