Movies In Focus is of the belief that Cameron Crowe‘s Vanilla Sky is one of the finest films of the 21st Century. Starring Tom Cruise, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Jason Lee and Kurt Russell, Vanilla Sky delivers on multiple levels. The film stands-up to repeated viewings because it is so rich with themes and undercurrents.
David Aames (Cruise), a publishing magnate, becomes the victim of a car crash, which scars his face. The incident changes him and compels him to question the existing reality of his life.
Crowe’s 2001 release is an adaptation of Alejandro Amenábar’s 1997 Spanish film Open Your Eyes. Not exactly a remake, Vanilla Sky is a ‘cover version’ of Open Your Eyes. It takes the same plot and star (Cruz), but it delivers a whole new arrangement.
Vanilla Sky grossed over $102 million at the US box office and $203 million globally.
