Tom Cruise has been out and about promoting The Mummy, but he’s also been spilling details on the eagerly awaited Top Gun sequel. First up, it won’t be called Top Gun 2 – we’re now looking at the colon-tastic Top Gun: Maverick. I could keep writing, but I think a few quotes from Mr Cruise will be better than my ramblings…
“We’re gonna have the same tone that we had with the first one. Stylistically it’s gonna be the same. We’re gonna have the same score from Harold Faltermeyer. Aviators are back. The need for speed, we’re gonna have big machines. It’s gonna be a competition film like the first one, and it’s gonna be in the same vein, the same tone as the first one but a progression for Maverick.”
“It’s not gonna be called Top Gun 2 it’s gonna be Top Gun: Maverick. I didn’t want a number. You don’t need a number.”
All of the above is very welcome – but so is Val Kilmer. Make that happen (and in more than just a cameo).
Cruise’s Oblivion director, Joseph Kosinski is in talks to direct the film which should start shooting within the next year.
