2001’s ZOOLANDER Still Delivers Laughs Nearly 20 Years Later

Movies In Focus isn’t a big fan of mainstream comedy films – but 2001’s Zoolander is a real keeper. The $28 million film was a moderate hit at the box office where it grossed $45 million in the US and $60 million globally. The New York-set comedy had the misfortune to open just two weeks after 9/11, but it took on a life of its own when it landed on home video.

Zoolander sees Stiller (who also directs) and Owen Wilson play rival male models. When Derek Zoolander loses his top model crown to the ‘so-hot-right-now’ Hansel, his career takes a nose dive and it’s up to the dim-witted model to get his life back. Throw-in a plot to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia and you have comedy gold. The film also features some great cameos from David Duchovny, David Bowie and Billy Zane

Movies In Focus will throw-on Zoolander every few years, and the film still holds-up nearly 20 years on. I’ve never seen 20016’s Zoolander 2
