We Don’t Need A LETHAL WEAPON TV Show – But We’re Getting One Anyway

Few movie franchises are as beloved to Movies in Focus as the Lethal Weapon series. The four films worked as a whole, with Richard Donner’s direction complementing the perfect casting (most notably Mel Gibson and Danny Glover’s chemistry), while the musical score by Michael Kamen, Eric Clapton and David Sanborn really hit the spot.

A Lethal Weapon 5 has been mooted for a long time but it seems that the powers that be have decided to go and develop the property as a TV series. Yes, that’s right – we will now get Lethal Weapon: The Series.

According to THR:

‘’The TV version centers on a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (originally played by Gibson) who, following the loss of his wife and baby, moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Glover), who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.’’

Matt Miller will write the pilot, which I imagine will lift heavily from Shane Black’s scorching script for the original 1987 film. Minus all the bad language of course.

This is a bad idea, but that’s never stopped Hollywood. It’ll be interesting to see how the casting for this goes – but that’s about it.
