The Monkees Singer Davy Jones Dies

While Movies In Focus is (obviously) mainly a movie site, the passing of The Monkees’ Davy Jones at the age of 66, has to be mentioned. A massive group in the 1960s, The Monkees featured British born Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith as an American antidote to The Beatles.

I had the luck (and pleasure) of catching The Monkees in Belfast on their 1997 reunion tour, during the brief period when Michael Nesmith played with the group. As well as playing their hits as a band, each member played his own mini-set and Jones wooed the crowd, with his “cheeky chapy” schtick. While, Nesmith was the undoubted talent within the group, they were a great mix of characters and the sound of a generation.

A loss.
