For years Brian Grazer and Ron Howard have been working hard to bring Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series to the screen. Names like Russell Crowe and Javier Bardem have been bandied about for the lead role but the scope of the project has led to problem after problem.
The plan has always been for The Dark Tower to be a multi-platform franchise that covers both television and cinema. But studios have been wary in case any (or all) of the components fail. Universal Pictures dropped the project due to budgetary reasons and Warner Bros passed on it before it was picked up by Sony Pictures. Earlier this year Nikolaj Arcel was hired direct the film and now a release of January 13, 2017 has been set.
Will this jinxed project now make it to the screen?
