OSCARS And BAFTAS Change 2021 Ceremony Dates Following COVID-19 Pandemic
The fall-out from the global Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic continues. It has now been announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony has been pushed back from 28 February 2021 to 25 April 2021.
The eligibility period for films allowed to be nominated has now moved from 31 December to the end of February.
The knock-on effect of this is that The British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) has announced that 11 April is the new date for its 2021 film awards ceremony. The original planned date was 14 February, 2020.
this change allows for an extended eligibility period as well as the opportunity for VOD releases to be nominated.
