Notebook Reviews: THE SIXTH SENSE
M. Night Shyamalan – 1999
Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan‘s The Sixth Sense is a masterpiece. There might be a (superb) twist ending, but Shyamalan’s film manages to hold-up despite repeated viewings. The direction and the performances are first-rate. Bruce Willis has never been better and Haley Joel Osment is outstanding.
Everything about The Sixth Sense works – Tak Fujimoto’s cinematography is excellent and James Newton Howard‘s score is powerful. There’s also a serious amount of layered nuance and rich characterisation in Shyamalan’s screenplay.
The only problem with The Sixth Sense is that you’ll never get to experience it for the first time again after you’ve watched it.
