Mel Gibson To Co-Write & Direct Remake Of Sam Peckinpah’s THE WILD BUNCH
If you asked me a few days ago if there should be a remake of Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch, I would have said ‘hell no!”. But now I’m over the moon with the announcement that Mel Gibson will co-write (with Bryan Bagby) and direct a new version of Peckinpah’s 1969 pic.
Peckinpah was a master of cinematic violence – and so is Gibson. I can’t think of anyone who would be better to deliver some Old West tough-hombre action. Wiliam Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Edmond O’Brien, Warren Oates and Ben Johnson starred in the original and I imagine that Gibson will bring together an equally (albeit modern) collection of badasses.
Mel Gibson is currently working on The Destroyer – a WWII drama set to star Mark Wahlberg.
