Maximum Overdrive: Warner Bros’ New Hybrid Distribution Model With HBO Max
Warner Bros. has announced that it plans to release its full 2021 film slate theatrically worldwide, while also adding exclusive one month access on the HBO Max streaming service in the U.S. alongside the film’s theatrical domestic release.
This new ‘hybrid model’ comes as a response to the closure of cinemas due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and after Wonder Woman 1984 went with a similar distribution model.
After the one month HBO Max access period in the US, each film will then leave the platform and continue theatrically in the U.S. and international territories, with all the usual distribution windows applying to the films.
Warner Bros‘ impressive scheduled for 2021 includes: The Little Things, Judas and the Black Messiah, Tom & Jerry, Godzilla vs. Kong, Mortal Kombat, Those Who Wish Me Dead, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, In The Heights, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Suicide Squad, Reminiscence, Malignant, Dune, The Many Saints of Newark, King Richard, Cry Macho and Matrix 4.
