Irish Academy Awards: The 2022 IFTA Nominations

Belfast and An Cailín Ciúin lead the nominations for the 2022 Irish Academy Awards. Both films have scored 10 nods each, while Who We Love, Swan Song and You Are Not My Mother have 6 nominations. Break-out hit, Deadly Cuts was next having achieved 5 nominations.

Movies In Focus has made no secret about my love of Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast and I’m thrilled to see wee Jude Hill score a nomination for Lead Actor. It’s also nice to see Ciarán Hinds, Jamie Dornan and Caitríona Balfe nominated too. The Belfast Cowboy himself, Van Morrison has managed to get a nod also. Niamh Algar bagged a Lead Actress nomination for Prano Bailey-Bond’s excellent Censor.

Nominations were shortlisted by Irish Academy members and a specialist jury panel of industry experts. Winners will be announced in both a virtual event on March 12th 2022 and a physical event in April 2022.
