Tom Petty was a Rock n’ Roll genius. Melodic, heartfelt and incredibly catchy, his music was tremendous. As a solo artist, the leader of Mudcrutch and The Heartbreakers or as a member of supergroup The Travelling Wilburys, Petty’s writing and vocals delivered in a way that few singer-songwriters ever do. A forty year career is long, but all too brief – and now he’s dead from a heat attack at the age of 66 years old.
Standout tracks include American Girl, I Won’t Back Down, Free Fallin’, Rebels. Learning To Fly, Yer So Bad, Mary Jane’s Last Dance, Into the Great Wide Open, Don’t Come Around Here No More and many, many others.
Below is a taster for those wanting to remember or for the uninitiated.
