THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB: No Fincher, No Mara, No Craig Means No Interest

Movies In Focus officially has no interest in The Girl In The Spider’s Web. The film is the follow-up to David  Fincher’s classy 2011 thriller, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo which starred Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. It’s obvious the original trio was too expensive for Sony Pictures, who want to trim the budget for this second instalment – the first didn’t quite score the global dough the studio wanted ($232.6 million from a $100 million budget).

Fede Alvarez will replace Fincher – and who knows who will stand-in for Mara and Craig. Steven Knight and Alvarez & Jay Basu wrote the script for the new movie, which is based on the book by David Lagercrantz (not Stieg Larsson, who penned the original trilogy). The plan is to shoot in September, with a release date scheduled for October 5, 2018.

This is what Alvarez had to say:

“I’m hugely excited and grateful for this opportunity. Sony has become family to me and I can’t think of a more thrilling project to celebrate our relationship. Lisbeth Salander is the kind of character any director dreams of bringing to life. We’ve got a great script and now comes the most fun part — finding our Lisbeth.”

Haven’t we been here before?
