Daniel Craig, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett and The Artist star Jean Dujardin will join George Clooney in the WWII thriller, The Monuments Men.

That’s a heck of a cast. I was there when it was just Clooney starring and directing, but now I can’t wait. Craig is of course riding high off the success of Skyfall (read the Movies In Focus review), while Murray was last seen in the exceptional Moonrise Kingdom (read a review), while he is also getting Oscar buzz for Hyde Park On The Hudson.

Here’s a synopsis for The Monuments Men from Deadline:

“The drama, which was scripted by Clooney and partner Grant Heslov, confronts the final chapter of Germany’s rule, which came down to the absolute destruction of everything that makes a culture keep its standing, including the lives that are lost and the sacrifices that are made. All of this is in danger of being lost forever as Hitler and the Nazis try to cover the tracks of a murderous regime. A crew of art historians and museum curators unite to recover renowned works of art that were stolen by Nazis before Hitler destroys them.”

John Goodman, Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville and Bob Balaban have also signed on to the film which is set to start shooting on March 1st 2013. I would expect it to hit screens this time next year so that it can garner some awards consideration

Clooney is a great actor and a director and I can’t wait to see what he’ll be able to do when working with Craig and Murray.
