Courting Success: Trailer For Ben Affleck’s Nike Drama AIR Starring Matt Damon
Air is a new comedy-drama based on the true-life tale of how Nike’s Sonny Vaccaro signed basketball player Michael Jordan for the iconic Air Jordan shoe.
Directed by Ben Affleck, Air stars Matt Damon as Vaccaro, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker and Viola Davis, while Affleck also plays Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
Movies In Focus is liking the vibe from this first trailer. There’s a Jerry Maguire energy from this and the tone shows that Affleck is trying something new as a director. His previous films were the thrillers Gone Baby Gone, The Town, Argo and Live By Night. I’m no sporting fan, but I do appreciate a good movie which uses sports as a backdrop. Air looks like it’s going to deliver the goods.
Set to be released by Amazon Studios on 5 April, 2023, Air is the first film produced by Affleck and Damon’s new company Artists Equity. The company intends to expand profit participation in films and provide a “talent-friendly” environment to the creative talent involved.
Air is the latest teaming from life-long friends, Ben Affleck and Matt Daman. The pair won Academy Awards for writing the screenplay for 1997’s Good Will Hunting and they also co-starred in multiple film including Dogma and The Last Duel. However, this is the first time that Affleck has directed Damon onscreen.
