The mighty Sean Connery was lured back to the role of James Bond with a $1.25 million salary in 1971. Diamonds Are Forever, a tale based loosely on Howard Hughes residency in Las Vegas ditches the realism and ups the humour quota. It’s a fun pic, but not as good as Connery’s earlier Bond efforts.

Diamonds Are Forever grossed $43.8 million at the US box office (nearly double On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’s haul) and $116 million globally.
