I have to admit that this is giving Movies In Focus a little tingle. I’ve been craving a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters since Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy hit screens back in 1999 and now I’m getting it – with a cracking A-list cast: Johnny Depp is the Invisible Man, Javier Bardem is Frankenstein’s Monster, Tom Cruise is Nick Morton (aka Van Helsing?), Sofia Boutella is The Mummy and Russell Crowe is Dr. Henry Jekyll and his main man Hyde.
Tom Cruise’s reboot of The Mummy will kick-start Universal Pictures’ newly branded Dark Universe, with Bill Condon’s Bride Of Frankenstein arriving on February 14, 2019. The titular Bride will be announced soon, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Bardem will be strapping on the neck bolts for that feature.
Universal also dropped a trailer for the classic monster movies (now called Dark Universe Legacy) that features the new Dark Universe logo with accompanying Danny Elfman theme. This flash card will play in front of all Dark Universe titles starting with next month’s Mummy movie.
