The great Ray Harryhausen would have been 100 years old on 29 June 2020. The special effects icon created some of the greatest on-screen monsters in cinema history using his famed Dynamtion technique. Harryhausen’s mastery would inspire future filmmakers like George Lucas, James Cameron and Peter Jackson (to name but a few), all of whom would go on to push the boundaries of screen effects.
An exhibition of Harryhausen’s work is scheduled to be displayed later this year at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, showing restored versions of some of his creations. The exhibition, Ray Harryhausen: Titan of Cinema, will also be accompanied by a new book written by his daughter, Vanessa. The tome will include a personal biography of her father, alongside details of projects he was working on – some of which were less than a decade ago!
To go along with the book and exhibition, The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation has launched an online poll to find which one of Harryhausen’s many creature creations is the world’s favourite. Ten randomly selected voters will win a signed copy of Ray Harryhausen: Titan of Cinema.
The vote will be launched on Facebook live on Friday 29 May 2020 at 6pm.
