Trailer: Mel Gibson & Sean Penn Hit The Books In THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN

The Professor And The Madman hit a serious road bump when Mel Gibson and director Farhad Safinia fell out with the producers, Voltage Pictures (read about that here). It looked like the film might never see the light of day, but the Oxford Dictionary drama is now gearing up for release (although Gibson and Safinia won’t be involved).

Here’s the first trailer for The Professor And The Madman, which shows it to be a punchy drama with good performances. It’s set in Oxford, England but it was actually shot in Ireland.

No UK or US release date has been set, but it opens in Italy and Croatia on 7 March and the Netherlands on 2 May.

Here’s the IMDB synopsis:

Professor James Murray begins work compiling words for the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary in the mid 19th century, and receives over 10,000 entries from a patient at Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, Dr. William Minor.
