Word on the street is that Quentin Tarantino is getting ready to shoot his tenth – and final – film as director.
Titled The Movie Critic, the film is apparently based on the time that famed film critic Pauline Kael was persuaded to take on a consulting role at Paramount Pictures by Warren Beatty.
Details are sketchy, and there’s no studio attached at the minute, but expect there to be a lot of interest in the project – especially considering that Tarantino says he’s going to call it a day as a director once he makes his tenth feature. The film is expected to go out to market soon and the plan is to start shooting in the Autumn/Fall.
Tarantino likes to play fast and loose with history in his films – even those based on real events – so it’s more than likely that The Movie Critic will have some sort of creative spin on Kael’s short-lived tenure at Paramount (she lasted only a few months).
Tarantino’s career has long been steeped in film history and he’s been leaning more and more into it as his career has progressed. Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (which he turned into a novel) both had film at their centre and he recently published the film theory book, Cinema Speculation.
Whatever happens, The Movie Critic is due to be an exciting prospect for a lot of Hollywood talent, who will undoubtedly be eager to work with one of cinema’s greats before he hangs up the megaphone and brings the curtain down on his career.
