You have to hand it to the Columbia Pictures marketing department (and David Fincher), you really do. They’ve managed to get a lot of people talking about Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. First there was the “bootlegged” trailer and now the chat about the “burned” DVD of the film. Both moves have led to conversations about the film away from the usual forums.
Here’s what Amazon was forced write on the disc’s product information:
“It has come to our attention that there has been some confusion on the DVD disc art as it appears to look like a bootlegged copy. Please note that the disc art is in fact the final approved disc art provided to us by the filmmakers.”
It’s quality stuff.
