The Wachowskis siblings are often described as visionary directors celebrated for their orginaility, creativity and visually stunning work. Jupiter Ascending is undoubtedly unique in an era of remakes and sequels, this is a spectacle that really stands out. To celebrate the Digital HD release Movies In Focus is going to take a look at the careers of the Wachowski siblings.

Lana and Andy Wachowski grew up with their family in South Chicago before both going to separate colleges and both leaving before graduating. Together they the set up a house-painting and construction firm whilst at the same time writing for Marvel comics. Their very first movie was a film noir style crime drama, Bound (1996), earning positive reviews from critics and gaining a cult following. Nevertheless, it would take a step into the world of science fiction for the siblings to really get everyone’s attention…

The Matrix Trilogy
In 1999, the Wachowski’s brought audiences across the world one of cinemas most inventive and original films. Mind-blowing stunts. Techno-slamming visuals. Mega-kick action. Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne lead the fight to free humankind in The Matrix, the cyber thriller written and directed by the Wachowski’s. Another two films The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions followed as well as various spin offs including video games and animated series.

Speed Racer

Adpated from David Mitchell’s book Cloud Atlas tells six stories spanning centuries. Jupiter Ascending
