Steven Spielberg Remembers The Late Richard Donner
Produced by Steven Spielberg, written by Chris Columbus and directed by Richard Donner; it’s no wonder that The Goonies is one of the most beloved films of the 1980s. It’s a movie for kids, that doesn’t talk down to them. Columbus’s script captures the essence of being young, while Donner’s direction nails the sense of adventure that propels the story.
There has been a huge outpouring of love and appreciation over the death of Richard Donner on 5 July 2021 and Steven Spielberg released a statement on the legendary director’s passing:
“Dick had such a powerful command of his movies, and was so gifted across so many genres. Being in his circle was akin to hanging out with your favorite coach, smartest professor, fiercest motivator, most endearing friend, staunchest ally, and — of course — the greatest Goonie of all. He was all kid. All heart. All the time. I can’t believe he’s gone, but his husky, hearty, laugh will stay with me always.”
