Werner Herzog may be the only man crazy enough to cast Robert Pattinson as T.E Lawrence (AKA Lawrence of Arabia) in Queen Of The Desert. It’s a brave move but we can all agree that Pattinson is no Peter O’Toole.
Nicole Kidman leads the cast as Gertrude Bell, ‘a traveller, writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attaché for the British Empire at the dawn of the twentieth century’. James Franco and Damien Lewis co-star in the film, which looks impressive – but will it have the necessary bite to make it stand-out from other ‘arty’ dramas hitting the screens in the near future.
Kidman has been in a career slump (not helped by the critical mauling of Grace of Monaco), while Pattinson has tried to step out from the shadow of the Twilight franchise – with limited box office success.
Will Queen Of The Desert work? We’ll find out soon enough.
