Relativity has picked up the rights to Mike Binder’s racial drama Black Or White – the title has been changed from Black And White due to legal reasons. The film will be released in the near future through Relativity’s new multicultural division, effectively throwing its hat into the ring for the Oscar race.

Kevin Costner plays a grandfather fighting a legal battle to retain custody of his orphaned mixed-race granddaughter. Octavia Spencer co-stars in the film which garnered great reviews when it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Binder penned the screenplay for the film which he produced alongside Costner.

Black Or White looks to be a searing drama which is sure to raise many interesting questions and that should lead to some lively cultural debates. The word is that Costner has never been better.
