Paul Thomas Anderson is channelling his mentor Robert Altman in this trailer for Inherent Vice. This LA-set detective yarn starring Joaquin Phoenix seems to be riffing on Altman’s The Long Goodbye –  and that’s no bad thing.

Anderson keeps doing what he wants to do, being an auteur in the true sense of the word. He delivers gutsy adult films, rich is texture. Inherent Vice looks no different.
