Joe Dante – 1989
The great Joe Dante‘s The ‘Burbs is brilliant. This black comedy features one of Tom Hanks‘ best performances and it has the perfect amount of comedy and macabre humour to make it something special. The entire supporting cast (Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Rick Ducommun, Corey Feldman et al) is first rate – with extra kudos going to Dern for his great bug-nuts turn. Jerry Goldsmith’s score is also brilliant.
Dante is working at the top of his game with this one, crafting one of the greatest comedy films of all-time. Everyone needs to visit The ‘Burbs.
