Notebook Reviews: THE BEST OF TIMES

Roger Spottiswoode – 1986. 

The Best Of Times is a fun (if uneven) sports comedy with two excellent turns from Kurt Russell and Robin Williams.

Roger Spottiswoode‘s film suffers a little because the drama and the laughs don’t often work when they sit side-by-side but the relationship between Russell and Williams helps sell the material. I’m not sure if this is Spottiswoode’s fault, or the fault of Ron Shelton‘s screenplay, but the film’s stars are so likeable that you can often overlook its flaws.

It’s no masterpiece, but there’s enough charm to make The Best Of Times an enjoyable (if very American) time-passer.
