Notebook Reviews: STAR WARS EPISODE 1: THE PHANTOM MENACE
George Lucas – 1999.
George Lucas returned to the Star Wars galaxy (and directing) with the entertaining Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Is this prequel as good as the original films? Of course its not, but The Phantom Menace is great cinema nonetheless. Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor are excellent as the Jedi Knights who get embroiled in intergalactic trade disputes and evil Sith plotting as young Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) begins his journey to he Dark Side of The Force.
The special effects are spectacular and the final lightsaber battle is outstanding. Credit once again to the great John Williams for another magnificent score.
The last act might just have a little too much going on, but Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is still a lot of fun.
