Notebook Reviews: ST. ELMO’S FIRE
Joel Schumacher – 1985.
Co-written and directed by the great Joel Schumacher, St. Elmo’s Fire is a hugely enjoyable ‘Brat Pack’ drama. Schumacher is working at the top of his game here, crafting a movie where humour easily sits side-by-side with the drama. It also looks fantastic.
As usual with the director, he has assembled a film with an excellent cast of young actors – Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell and Mare Winningham.
Wonderfully stylish and very ’80s – St. Elmo’s Fire is a great piece of entertainment which will particularly resonate with those aged between 20 and 25. Great.
