Notebook Reviews: ONE GOOD COP
Heywood Gould – 1991.
Written and directed by Heywood Gould, One Good Cop is an excellent dramatic thriller which just doesn’t get the love it deserves.
As always, Michael Keaton is his usual excellent self – if you want to talk about range, see how this is sandwiched between Pacific Heights and Batman Returns on Keaton’s filmography. Meanwhile, Rene Russo and the rest of the supporting cast (Anthony LaPaglia, Rachel Ticotin and others) offer-up some fine support.
Packed with humour, drama, suspense and plenty of heart, Gould has a lot going on here but he manages to keep things low key and honest. The film feels very real.
Criminally underrated (and a box office bomb on release), One Good Cop deserves to be seen. Highly recommended.
