Notebook Reviews: DR. NO

Terence Young – 1962

Dr. No is the first – and one of the finest James Bond films. Sean Connery became an instant movie-star and icon with his turn as Bond, James Bond. It’s perfect casting and Connery delivers suave masculinity with a panther-like poise as Ian Fleming‘s literary hero.

From the very opening, you know that you’re watching something special and the Dr. No looks fantastic (even after all these years). From its Jamaican locations to the titular villain’s lair, you can see how the elements came together to deliver such a legendary film franchise. And then there’s that theme from Monty Norman. First rate entertainment.
