Never Say NEVER GO BACK: Ed Zwick To Direct Tom Cruise In JACK REACHER Sequel
Movies In Focus is not a huge fan of Ed Zwick as a director – but I’ll take a Jack Reacher sequel anyway I can get it. Zwick is in negotiations to direct the follow-up to Tom Cruise’s $218 million 2012 global hit. Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz will rewrite Richard Wenk’s script which is based on Lee Child 18th (!) Jack Reacher book Never Go Back.
Here’s the synopsis from Deadline:
Reacher heads back to his old military base in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested, and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy and fathering a child with a woman. He can’t remember either transgression but gets to the bottom of it with cunning and sometimes brute force.
Cruise scored in the role of Reacher, surprising critics who said he was too small to play the character – who is 6”5 in Childs’ book series. The Christopher McQuarrie film was a hard-edged action throwback and Movies In Focus is open to many more Reacher thrillers. McQuarrie (who wrote and directed the forthcoming Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation) will executive produce the film which doesn’t yet have a release date.
