The honchos at Sony Pictures must be very happy with what they’re seeing from the currently in production sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man . The studio has just given the green-light to a further two movies in the web-slinging superhero franchise.
Andrew Garfield (and the rest of the cast) is locked into the role of Peter Parker for the films, which will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively.
That’s a big commitment from Sony, although the franchise has been immensely profitable for the studio since it first brought the character to the screen in 2002. Last year’s reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man was the lowest grossing film in the series- and it still managed to score over $700 million globally.
I’m not all that excited at the prospect of announcing films before they have a story or a script – but that’s how Hollywood rolls these days.
