Highway To The Danger Zone: Trailer & Poster For TOP GUN: MAVERICK

We’ve been waiting over thirty years, but Tom Cruise is finally flying back into the danger zone. Cruise returns to the role of Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in Joseph Kosinski’s follow-up to the 1986 smash hit Top Gun

This new trailer for Top Gun: Maverick shows little has changed over the intervening years and Cruise’s Maverick is still…errrr…a maverick, feeling the need for speed and all that. It would seem that Kosinski’s film owes a huge debt to the late Tony Scott‘s original film. Scott was a master visual stylist and key shots and images from his film seem to have been replicated here (volleyball, motorbike riding at sunset, piano playing etc) . I don’t have a problem with that – few movies look as good or as cool as Top Gun

Top Gun grossed nearly $180 million at the US box office and $177 million around the rest of the globe for a $358 million total in 1986 money. An impressive sum that would be nearly $1 billion in adjusted dollars.

I want to point out that film is credited as A Don Simpson / Jerry Bruckheimer Production, this is a nice touch which shows the impact the late Don Simpson had on the original film Simpson died in 1996) and its good to see that Jerry Bruckheimer is honouring that.

Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer star in Top Gun: Maverick which opens in summer 2020.
