Hatfields and McCoys launched on Monday night with a massive 13.9 million viewers – 17 million when the repeat was aired. Those are very impressive viewing figures for the History show. A drop was expected for episode two-but it was only a very slight one.

The Kevin Costner/Bill Paxton mini-series scored 13.1 million viewers for its second episode, highlighting that viewers are enjoying this epic series.

Let’s put these numbers into perspective-the series finale of House scored 8.7 million viewers while last week’s highest rated show was the American Idol finale on Fox, which had 21 million people tune-in.

Hatfields and McCoys is a cable show-on History. Let that sink in.
