Going Solo: Alden Ehrenreich Set To Play Famed Corellian Smuggler
It looks like Alden Ehrenreich is going to have to learn how to do the Kessel Run in less than 12 par secs. The actor has officially snagged the role of young Han Solo in Lucasfilm/Disney’s solo Solo movie, which is set to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
It’s brave of Ehrenreich to step into one of Harrison Ford’s trademark characters (especially after he was so great in The Force Awakens), but if it works then it could be a star making turn. Movies In Focus isn’t thrilled at the prospect of someone else taking on such a famed role and I don’t think a Han Solo prequel is necessary – but I want to believe in this (having Lawrence Kasdan working on the script helps). Hollywood sees something in Ehrenreich, he recently starred in the Coen’s Hail, Caesar! and he’s got a plum role in Warren Beatty’s soon to be released Howard Hughes movie. This should send his career int hyperdrive.
Shooting on the Han Solo movie doesn’t start until January 2017 – but it’s believed the role was cast so the character could appear in a cameo in the forthcoming Rogue One.
