Forget The Chariots! Behind The Scenes Of BEN-HUR With Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd
There’s something captivating about photographs of actors on-set doing something which is the antithesis of the character they are supposed to be portraying on-screen. This is even more exciting when it’s an older movie.
Case in point – this wonderfully captured photo of Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd playing around on a scooter at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios when they were shooting William Wyler’s 1959 epic Ben-Hur. Forget the chariots!
Budgeted at $15 million, Ben-Hur grossed $74 million at the U.S. box office following its release in 1959. That gross would equate to just under $897 million when adjusted to today’s prices – making it the 14th highest grossing film of all-time.
