Finally A Reason To See ANT-MAN: Michael Douglas Joins The Cast

I had zero interest in Edgar Wright‘s Ant-Man. None – zilch – nada. I was never going to watch it.
I am now – Marvel announced it has signed Golden Globe winner Michael Douglas to play Hank Pym. I had no idea who that was – but thankfully the studio press release tells me that he has a ‘rich history in the Marvel Universe’ and the character first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27 in 1962. Yeah, okay.

Here’s what Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige had to say:

“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”

I have to hand it to Marvel – just when I reach the decision not to watch one of their movies they go and find a great old-time movie star to fill-out a supporting role. This Ant-Man manoeuvre is exactly what they did with Robert Redford’s casting in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They’ve got me good.

Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang (who?) opens July 31, 2015 – a summer which is going to be a box office bloodbath.
