The mighty Val Kilmer is set to be the focus of a new documentary titled, Val which was produced by A24 and acquired by Amazon Studios in the U.S. and Latin America. A24 will distribute the film throughout the rest of the world and there are rumblings that the film could also make its premiere at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
Here’s the synopsis:
“This raw, wildly original and unflinching documentary reveals a life lived to extremes and a heart-filled, sometimes hilarious look at what it means to be an artist and a complex man.”
Across his career, Kilmer has been a actor who is difficult to pin down – from Top Gun to The Doors and Batman Forever to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (to name just a few) he’s always taken bold character choices and delivered note perfect performances across a variety of genres.
Directed by Leo Scott and Ting Poo, Val will feature footage shot by Kilmer himself, edited down from hours and hours of footage which he has collected over the years.
“At least once a day for years I looked around and got this bittersweet feeling that there are a thousand reasons that this project could’ve been shipwrecked. I mean, what could a film look like of a man filming himself, sometimes daily, years at a time? It is unimaginable that this movie actually could’ve ever come to light without the partnership of my dear friends, Leo and Ting, and my producing partners.
Tireless hours of editing and endless emotions with each new cut! I couldn’t be more proud to share this with the world!”
Movies In Focus is a huge admirer of Val Kilmer and his career -so Val has just attained must-see status.
