Movies In Focus covers a lot of horror. That’s a double-edged sword because a lot of horror movies are terrible. When done right, horror can be cinema at its most primalm however when it’s done wrong it can be downright laughable.

I’m not quite sure where writer-director Travis Cluff ‘s The Gallows fits on this wildly unpredictable sliding scale but here’s the trailer to let you make up your mind.

Twenty years after an accident caused the death of the lead actor during a high school play, students at the same small town school resurrect the failed stage production in a misguided attempt to honor the anniversary of the tragedy—but ultimately find out that some things are better left alone.

The Gallows opens in the UK on 17 July 2015.
